Help a Family Have a Home Birth

Most insurance companies do not cover midwifery care or home birth, leaving families to pay thousands of dollars in healthcare costs out of pocket. Alabama has been named the most dangerous state in the nation to be pregnant or give birth, with 65 maternal deaths per 100,000 births—nearly twice the national rate. For Black Alabamians, that number rises to 100 deaths per 100,000 births, and 34% of Alabama counties are maternal healthcare deserts.

For healthy, low-risk pregnancies, midwife-led care is associated with fewer unnecessary interventions and positive outcomes for mothers and babies. Your donation helps remove financial barriers and gives families access to skilled, personalized home-birth care. Together, we can expand options, make birth safer, and help save lives.

National NPR coverage has highlighted both the urgent maternal-health gaps Alabama families face and the work Midwife Nadia is doing to help close those gaps through skilled, community-based midwifery care. These stories offer additional context for why access to respectful, relationship-centered prenatal, birth, and postpartum care matters.
